Algorithm

An algorithm is a list of rules that a computer or social media platform follows in order to solve a problem, like how to prioritise the content that appears in a user’s feed. For example, Facebook’s algorithm might decide that content from a user’s family is more important than content from a Business Page, in which case it would prioritise the user’s family content over posts from a Business Page that they like.

Hashtags

A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by a hash sign (#), used on social media websites and applications like Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram to identify Tweets, Pins and pictures on a specific topic. Searching specific hashtags on social media platforms allows users to quickly find content they’re interested in.

Organic Reach

Organic reach is the number of people who see your Tweets, Posts, Pins and Instagram images through unpaid distribution. The person or business publishing the content does not invest in paid advertising.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Search engine optimisation is the process of improving the online visibility or discoverability of a website, web page, social media profile or social media post in a search engine’s unpaid results (often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results). If you are not paying for advertising on Google or social media platforms, the aim is to optimise your content using tools like keywords and hashtags to increase its ranking in search results organically.
